French Art Deco silver plate basket or centrepiece by the prestigious Lyon silversmiths, Durosseau & Raynaud from around 1927. Hallmarked as shown.
Durousseau & Raynaud are best known for designing and producing the tableware for the ‘imperial’ Paris-Lyon-Marseilles (PLM) train service, which ran until 1938. (The very name conjures up an age of glamorous train travel!)
This basket for serving bread or fruit has an oval bowl and is elegantly decorated with geometric lines and chevrons.
