19thc pewter broth pot or sustenteur
An 19thc pewter sustenteur or stock pot with inner and outer screw lid.
This charming object was originally used in France for slow-cooking beef broth in a bain-marie (hot water). First used in the 18th century, it was a hygienic way of preparing individual servings for people who were convalescing.
