Auguste Nayel, Graindorge polychrome statue – Saint Marc – 15″
Monumental polychrome statue by the Breton sculptor, Auguste Nayel (1845-1909).
The subject is Saint Marc, one of four evangelists made by the Graindorge faiencerie Dinan, Brittany. Saint Matthieu is also for sale. He’s depicted in medieval style, with flowing robes and a crouching lion.
From around 1895.
Exceedingly rare, beautiful piece.
