An antique French confit pot from Gascony dating to the 1850s. It is in earthenware, designed for preserving food indoors.
The warm red half-glaze and two-handled shape dates back to a time when each village that was lucky enough to have a kiln had its own distinctive style of production. Even then, no two pots are the same.

It’s in excellent condition with signs of wear and age.
