2 John Derbyshire Lion Paperweights 1880s
Two antique John Derbyshire lion paperweights, one in blue, the other in turquoise.
They would add instant gravitas to any gentleman’s desk!
Made in Manchester around 1880. Lovely examples of Victorian fancy glass.
Derbyshire was one of a handful important glass makers in the North of England which made fancy glass affordable to the the middle classes. Over time, the moulds became more and more elaborate and the companies emulated each other in imagination and colour.
Derbyshire’s lions came in at several colours, including green, amber and clear glass.
