18thc Toile de Jouy panel, Homage of America to France
An 18thc toile de Jouy panel, copper plated in blue on white cotton calico. The pattern is ‘Hommage d’Amérique à la France’ by Jean-Baptiste Huet. This textile panel dates to 1783-1789.
The print celebrated the alliance between France and America in defeating the British in the American Revolutionary war. The figure in the centre of the fabric represents France, who is stretching her hand out to America.
We’ve shown it with a card mount to give an idea of how it would look once framed.
Size : 21 inches x 14.5 inches / 53.5cm x 37.5cm
The panel is in excellent condition. The only stains are around the edges and are due to a previous framing.
